Nancy Wilson was born on the 20th of February, 1937 in the city of Chillicothe, Ohio to Olden Wilson, who was employed in an ironworks, and Lillian Ryan, a former domestic worker. Nancy was the first out of six kids. Nancy was a child who listened to records from her father as well as his enthusiasm for music. It was clear that she wanted to be a musician by the time she was four years old and developed her talent by singing in the church choir. After winning a talent competition in a television show at the age of 15, she began to appear regularly on Skyline Melodies, while still in highschool. She went to The Big Town, New York in the year 1959. In just a few months, she was offered a job singing in The Blue Morocco Night Club on Boston Road in The Bronx which was where her agent was introduced to her and signed her. At first, she focused on rhythm and blues, under the influence of Adderley, she shifted away from R&B and began to embrace music from jazz and torch. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley joined forces in 1962 and helped push her up on the charts. In 1963, she had the biggest success through Tell Me the Truth. The following year, she received an invitation to perform at the New York's Coconut Grove, the most famous club in America.
