The Jazz performer Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award winner was born February 20 1937 in the city of Chillicothe, Ohio. Her parents were ironworker Olden Wilson, and former Lillian Ryan who worked as domestic helper. Nancy Wilson was first baby of six. Her father's love of music and his collection of records at home were a huge influence on Nancy at the age of a girl. When she was just four year old, she was certain she'd be a singing star. Her talent developed by her involvement in the choir at church. Following her win in a talent show on television when she was 15 years old, she began to regularly appear in Skyline Melodies, while still at high school. That same year, Nancy began to perform at night clubs. Following her graduation from high school aged 17 Nancy took a class for a year at Ohio's Central State College now Central State University before dropping out and becoming a professional performer. In 1956 she released her first album with Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band. They performed together throughout 1956 until 1958. Nancy's first Dot Records recording was made during her time in the Carolyn Club Big Band. Cannonball told her she should move in New York and go to The Big Town for the rest of her singing career. After a few weeks, Adderley's manager saw her performance and decided to hire her. He signed a contract with Capitol records in 1960 and she debuted the following year by releasing the single. Guess Who Saw Today. Her records were successful and Capitol released 5 Nancy Wilson albums in two years. Following the influence of Adderley she shifted her focus her focus from R&B towards jazz. Their collaboration in 1962 with Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley led her to the top and her breakthrough hit Tell Me the Truth in 1963. The performance helped her land a gig at the New York Coconut Grove in 1963, America's most popular nightclub.
