Jazz singer Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award winner was born the 20th of February 1937 in Chillicothe Ohio to iron-worker Olden Wilson and his wife Lillian Ryan who worked as a housekeeper. Nancy was the first of six children. Nancy was inspired by her father's musical tastes as well as the music played at her home. As young as 4years old, Nancy was aware she would be an artist. She was able to develop her talents through singing in the choir of her church. While still in high-school, she appeared regularly with Skyline Melodies. In the same year, she started to work in nightclubs. Nancy quit Central State University in Ohio after being matriculating for a full year. In 1956 she made her debut album in Rusty's Carolyn Club Big Band. They toured together from 1956 through 1958. Nancy's first Dot Records recording was made while she was in the Big Band of Carolyn Club. Cannonball suggested that she relocate into New York and go to The Big Town to continue her singing career. In just a few months, she was offered an offer to sing at The Blue Morocco Night Club located on Boston Road in The Bronx which was where her agent was introduced to her voice and agreed to sign her. In 1960, he signed her to Capitol Records, and that same year she released her debut single. Guess who I saw today? Capitol issued five Nancy Wilson albums within two years. Adderley helped her move away from R&B and to focus on jazz and torch song. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley collaborated in 1962, which allowed her to climb the charts. In 1963, she achieved her biggest hit with Tell Me the Truth. The singer was offered a position at New York's Coconut Grove nightclub, America's most prestigious nightclub.
