Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens - better known to the public as Queen Latifah - is an American performer, actress and a singer. Her performance as a singer, music actor, filmmaker and TV performer has earned an impressive two Screen Actors Guild Awards and two Image Awards. She also received an Grammy Award as well as six additional Grammy nominations. Queen Latifah is an Newark New Jersey native. Her parents were Lancelot Sr. as a police officer and Rita teacher in Irvington High School. The couple divorced when Latifah was just 10 years old. Mark James aka the DJ Mark the 40 King created an audition for the hip-hop Princess of the Posse by Queen Latifah. The recording was sent to Yo! MTV Raps Faddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music signed Latifah following her hearing of the song. Her first single Wrath of My Madness, in 1988.
